The federal government and cantons must speed up the approval process for renewable energy generation installations and electricity networks, according to the latest IEA report on Switzerland, presented in Bern on Monday.
Three major obstacles stand in the way of accelerated implementation of Swiss energy policy. According to the IEA, these include the lack of qualified workers, for example to install heat pumps, lengthy approval processes for systems using renewable energy and interrupted supply chains for building materials and equipment for the energy sector.
The IEA subjects the energy policies of its member states to an in-depth review every five years.
