Sick people should be able to get free medical advice anytime, anywhere. At least that’s the idea behind Medgate, the independent telemedicine provider. But that was not possible on Monday.
Because the company fell victim to multiple cyber attacks, the company confirms to Blick. Patients tell Blick about canceled appointments. Medgate’s doctors apparently lost access to the system.
120 medical professionals affected
On August 30 and September 4, attacks on parts of Medgate’s IT infrastructure were detected. Since the second attack attempt on Monday morning, patients can no longer reach Medgate by phone or app. According to the current state of knowledge, no patient data or sensitive company data has been stolen, according to Medgate.
The company is in contact with the relevant authorities, according to a statement.
The Swiss supplier Medgate, belonging to the German retail group Otto Group, invoices according to Tarmed rates, just like doctors’ practices. Doctors can also issue doctor’s certificates by telephone, prescribe medicines and even deliver them to your home if necessary. Medgate’s 120 doctors are all Swiss licensed, but some work from home in Germany.
As the “Tagesanzeiger” reported a few days ago, 280,000 people contacted the telemedicine provider Medgate in the first quarter of this year. The remote consultations registered a growth rate of 20 percent, as the “Tagesanzeiger” wrote. (she)
