Flyers, posters and podiums are not enough. Many National States and Council of States candidates also try to make a lasting impression on voters in other, more unconventional ways, which will hopefully eventually be written on the ballot paper. From candidate to campaign beer: six Müsterli from all political camps.

1

In the Käse-Mobil through the canton of Zurich

Zurich SVP country councilor Martin Haab (61) and his party colleague Martin Pretty (54) are on an election campaign tour. In an old Fiat 500 with cheese look, the two dairy farmers drive from community to community every Saturday and distribute cheese and bread. Their motto: instead of talking about cheese, they distribute it. The campaign is well received by ‘cheibe’, says Haab. The two SVP farmers will certainly attract attention in the villages with their bright yellow cheese mobile.

Green goes on a llama walk

The Zug Green National Councilor Manuela Weichelt (56) relies on the “Jöö” factor. Although politics is not a petting zoo, the animal lover invites you for a walk and picnic with llamas, goats and dogs in early October. The four-legged friends belong to a party member of Weichelt who offers animal-supported social work. The goal: that the handling of the animal has a positive effect on the behavior of a person. In this case: vote green!

Popcorn of your choice

You can smell Beat Flach (58) from afar. The GLP National Council of Aargau tours the canton with its Wahlbar, which it has partly expanded itself, and serves freshly popped popcorn and coffee, among other things. In good weather, the popcorn machine in the green trailer can work independently of energy thanks to a solar panel on the roof and a battery, says the green liberal. A power connection is then required for the refrigerator and coffee maker.

The SP is about the sausage

Cheers campaign! The Schaffhauser SP relies on beer and sausage to win over voters. Council candidate Simon Stocker (42), SP state councilor Martina Munz (67) and candidate Linda De Ventura (36) had a “delicious summer beer” brewed by a local brewer. The label features the portrait of the three Social Democrats. The sausages also come from a friend who is a producer in the region. That went well. “We had to order beer twice,” says Stocker. Sausage and beer are now sold out.

On the road in the pink Vespa

Actually, Erich Ettlin (61) could have saved himself the election campaign. Because the Council of States of the canton of Obwalden has no competition for miles around. The center politician was re-elected by silent ballot. Still, Ettlin wants to use the election year to get in touch with those he represents in Bern. With his pink Vespa, which he bought over 30 years ago, he drives to all Obwalden communities. No one can really blame him for not being visible in the canton with this vehicle.

FDP-Gössi goes for a walk

With Petra Gössi (47) it is about hill and dale. The Schwyz FDP country councilor and former party chairman invited the citizens to go for a walk. She has already made five trips through the canton and the last campaign walk will follow on Wednesday. She likes to go to the mountains, because there is no better place to “duräschnuufä”, she explains on the flyer. During campaign trips, she can also practice not being taken aback by any question.
