Research shows: 80 percent are in favor of a uniform health insurance fund

In a representative survey by Watson, nearly 80 percent of respondents in German- and French-speaking Switzerland were in favor of a unified health insurance fund. More than three-quarters also want to stick to compulsory health insurance.

The survey was conducted by Demoscope between August 29 and September 1. 9178 people participated, Internet portal Watson announced on Wednesday. Assuming a random sample, the maximum error range for percentages is 1.0 percent.

A move took place in 2014

In 2014, the electorate gave a unified health insurance company a clear rejection at the ballot box. Then 62 percent spoke out against it. According to the Watson survey, currently 79 percent of the population is in favor of introducing a uniform health insurance fund that would give everyone the same basic insurance.

When asked whether the current health insurance system needs to be reformed, 88 percent of those surveyed answered yes or rather yes. 77 percent want to comply with the obligation without restrictions, or rather. For only 22 percent, abolition is an option.

Must remain mandatory

The obligation has the support of all political camps. Even the majority of survey participants and FDP voters close to the SVP want to adhere to it.

A clear majority of respondents believe that health insurance premiums should be income dependent. 63 percent answered the corresponding question with yes or rather yes.

A cost cap on premiums, as required by the SP’s premium waiver initiative, is also popular. FDP supporters are also 50 percent more in favor of it. Among SVP voters, 59 percent are more likely to support the cap. The support of the other parties is even greater. (SDA)
