The ambassador would have been fatal because he reported to the regime under President Isaias Afwerki about machinations in Switzerland.

Where is Adam Osman? The Eritrean ambassador in Geneva is said to have gone into hiding – and applied for asylum in Switzerland. The rumors that have been circulating on social networks for a few days are apparently true, reports the “Aargauer Zeitung”. However, the disappearance of the ambassador has nothing to do with the riots in Zurich last weekend, the newspaper writes.

Last weekend, Eritreans attacked each other in Opfikon ZH. Twelve people were injured in the clash between supporters of the regime of Isayas Afewerki (77) and his opponents. Three Eritreans were arrested.

Instead, the Eritrean representative allegedly discovered dirty machinations in his embassy: an insider told the “Aargauer Zeitung” that Osman had discovered that some people had hidden money in the embassy. It concerned money for refugees so that they could apply for social assistance benefits in Switzerland.

The ambassador betrayed the masterminds behind these deals to the regime back home in Eritrea. “Several very influential men have been arrested because of him – now they and their supporters are looking for him,” the anonymous source told the newspaper. He has been unavailable for days for the “Aargauer Zeitung” and friends of the diplomat.

Neither the Secretariat of State for Migration nor the Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs commented on the rumors or would like to confirm receipt of the asylum application. That is not possible due to data and privacy protection, it says. (she)
