Although the Zurich city council recently explicitly allowed topless bathing in the indoor pools at the request of parliament, the need is limited. The Zurich women prefer to keep a low profile, the sports department said when asked.

The need is very low, says Dorian Eichholzer of the sports department of the Keystone-SDA news agency on Thursday, “that has not changed since the request was answered”. As a result, topless swimming is no problem and there have been no conflicts in the pools.

«Decent swimwear»

Four city councilors had noticed an unequal treatment of the sexes with regard to topless bathing in Zurich’s indoor and outdoor baths and so requested information from the city council.

The municipal councilors referred, among other things, to the municipal bathing regulations, which state that bathing is only allowed “with proper swimwear”. A more liberal practice prevailed in the outdoor pools, but stricter rules seemed to apply in the indoor pools, according to her.

No differences

The city council then made it clear that there were no differences between the sexes or between outdoor and indoor swimming pools. (SDA)
