Federal Councilor Alain Berset (center) has been answering questions from journalists about the corona pandemic for years, with Anne Levy, director of the FPS Public Health, and spokesperson for the Federal Council Andre Simonazzi.

Until recently, journalists who wanted information from the State Secretariat for Migration (SEM) were always put off. The main media number was simply unreachable: “For questions about entering Switzerland, please consult our Corona helpline by e-mail,” the telephone cord sounded automatically.

Due to the many questions, longer waiting times are possible, the female voice on the tape warned. Then you fell out of the phone loop.

Anyone have questions about the pandemic?

So while the mask requirement in Switzerland fell over a year ago, the SEM still hasn’t declared the pandemic over. During the pandemic, there may have been up to 2,000 calls a day asking about Covid and its effects on the federal government. But are there still tons of questions on this topic?

Blick therefore sent a media investigation to the SEM by e-mail. The response took a day and was simple: “Thanks for the tip, we’ll change that.” However, another call from Blick shortly afterward proved that the message on the answering machine hadn’t disappeared Wednesday morning either. The corona pandemic is definitely over – it will obviously take a little longer for the SEM. (she)
