Rutte: We are doing everything to ensure that the Amalia situation lasts as short as possible

Prime Minister Rutte says everything is being done to make the situation of the endangered Princess Amalia “as short as possible”. Amalia no longer lives in Amsterdam, where she studies, and she “actually” cannot go outside, Queen Máxima and King Willem-Alexander surprisingly announced at the end of their state visit to Sweden.

The prime minister declined to answer questions about who was behind the threat at his weekly press conference. He does not want to establish a direct connection with organized crime in public. He also does not want to say anything about the measures taken. “I will not make the opponent smarter than he is.”

The situation is drastic for Amalia, says the prime minister after her parents. “It definitely affects her and the way she can structure her studies.” Amalia can still be taken to the course, but normal student life is not possible.

No guarantees

The prime minister’s main message is that “everything will be done” to put an end to this. “Everyone is working with all their might,” said Rutte, who does not reveal which authorities are involved. “It’s always the top priority.”

He doesn’t want to give time. “I can’t give any guarantees. It may take longer.” On Household Day, Princess Amalia accompanied her parents to the Koninklijke Schouwburg, where her father read the speech from the throne. Amalia and the royal couple are scheduled to visit the Caribbean in January. Rutte does not yet want to say what the threats against Amalia’s address mean for this visit.
