The remuneration for the members of the Landesrat will increase next year. Home Secretary Bruins Slot agrees with the Advisory Council on the Status of Political Officials that the work of States members has become more difficult. And the deputies themselves find the salary too low.

Bruins Slot wants Provincial Council membership to remain attractive. The salary of the country members will be the same as that of the council members in medium-sized municipalities. In practice, this means that the remuneration will increase by 16 percent to EUR 1526.07 per month without a regular increase, which will be introduced on January 1st based on figures from Statistics Netherlands.

‘Release on time’

The state elections are on March 15 next year and then the increase will take effect. With the current announcement of the measure, the cabinet wants to create clarity before the elections and interest enough candidates for membership.

Bruins Slot also announced today that water board director compensation will also increase. The water associations will also be elected on March 15, from this point onwards the salary of the board members will increase to 580 euros per month.

The federal states and water associations must bear the increase themselves.
