Remkes wrongly admits: but no list of top vices
Nitrogen broker Johan Remkes admits that he made a mistake when moving in on Sunday Buitenhof said the Department of Agriculture has a list of 500 to 600 so-called peak trucks near nature reserves that should be phased out within a year. “I was wrong in that assumption,” Remkes said in a statement.
Minister Van der Wal (Nature and Nitrogen) today strongly denied that there is such a list of major nitrogen emitters in her ministry. She said she regrets that the picture is now emerging that the ministry already knows which companies should move, close or switch. “Because that brings unrest among the farmers again. You think: could that be me?”
According to Van der Wal, there is anonymized data analysis, but certainly not an address-level list. Remkes imposed the penance for the existence of the list tonight.
“I’m sorry for the misunderstanding”
“If the minister is pointing out that this is not the case, then she is absolutely right, because that depends on the decisions that the cabinet has yet to make. I regret the misunderstanding that has arisen in this regard.”
Tomorrow, at the request of the House of Representatives, Remkes will explain his findings after the talks with agriculture and the cabinet. Tomorrow morning Prime Minister Rutte and Ministers Van der Wal and Adema (Agriculture) will receive farmer representatives for breakfast at the Catshuis.
