The Netherlands are sending anti-aircraft missiles to Ukraine
The Netherlands are sending anti-aircraft missiles to Ukraine. In a letter to the House of Representatives, Ministers Ollongren (Defense) and Hoekstra (Foreign Affairs) write that the missiles must be launched using an air and missile defense system supplied by one of the allies.
Military aid to Ukraine is often not made public, but the cabinet is now doing so “as a signal to Russia in light of recent Russian attacks on Ukraine.”
The Netherlands will not be intimidated
According to Ollongren and Hoekstra, “the attacks reinforce the Cabinet’s belief that they can only be countered with unwavering support for Ukraine and its people.” Ollongren once again told her Ukrainian counterpart that the Netherlands will not be intimidated by Russia and will continue to support Ukraine.
The anti-aircraft missiles cost 15 million euros. According to the Defense Ministry, the consequences of military support to Ukraine for the “readiness” of the Dutch armed forces remain acceptable. The government says it will remain vigilant on this.
