Corona booster for everyone aged 12 and over in the coming weeks
Anyone between the ages of 40 and 60 can make an appointment starting next week to get a booster vaccination against Corona. The following week it will be the turn of everyone between the ages of 12 and 40, Minister Kuipers (Public Health) said.
The GGDs and RIVM always announce online and via social media which birth years are next for a refresher. People have to make an appointment for vaccination themselves.
1.5 million Dutch people have now received the latest booster vaccination. These are mainly people over 60 and people with poor health. About 600,000 people have already made an appointment but have not yet been peed.
According to Minister Kuipers, 3 to 4 percent of the population is currently infected with Corona, and the trend is rising. “It’s a situation we’ve considered for a long time.” The autumn wave leads to absenteeism problems, for example in public transport and in the health sector.
No additional measures are required yet
Still, we’re in better shape than last year and the year before, says Kuipers. The number of people who are becoming seriously ill with the virus and need medical help is increasing, but less than in previous years. He attributes this to the fact that many people have been vaccinated.
There are currently around 1,100 people with Corona in the hospital, around 40 of them in intensive care. In a letter to the House of Representatives, he writes that the increase in hospital admissions has not yet led to bottlenecks. “There is no reason to take any additional measures for now.”
The GGDs can deliver 700,000 injections per week. That’s a lot, but according to Kuipers, it still means people who make an appointment now won’t have their turn immediately.
