Funding package for SMEs almost complete, cabinet wants to reimburse half of the increase in energy costs
The government wants to bear half of the increase in energy costs for small and medium-sized companies. This will require funds of 2.5 to 3 billion euros in the coming period. Sources confirm this to NOS following a report by De Telegraaf. The support package has been in the works for several weeks and is nearing completion.
This applies to companies that spend at least 12.5% of their turnover on energy costs, energy-intensive businesses such as bakers and butchers. To ensure that these are energy-intensive companies, the cabinet also sets a minimum consumption: Entrepreneurs must consume at least 5,000 cubic meters of gas per year, which is 50,000 kilowatt hours of electricity. In addition, the companies may have a maximum of 250 employees.
There is a cap on financial support that is still being negotiated. It is expected to be a maximum of 160,000 euros per company.
The funding is valid for at least one year and starts in spring. Until then, these entrepreneurs can receive an advance on the subsidy from their bank. Banks provide this in the form of a loan, provided a company is fundamentally sound. There is no state guarantee for such a loan. You can also get a tax deferral, just like in the Corona period. The plan is to be presented on Friday after the Council of Ministers.
Compensation for consumers was recently announced.
