The daycare initiative is asking for more money from the government for childcare that supplements the family. A committee collected 105,000 signatures. (theme image)

The citizens’ initiative “For good and affordable family-related childcare for everyone (childcare initiative)” demands that parents may not spend more than ten percent of their income on childcare places for their children. The initiative not only aims to make day care centers and BSOs accessible and affordable for all families, but also the entire spectrum of family and school-related care – such as day families.

The initiative committee argues that many parents today cannot afford extra family care. The result: In many cases, especially women with children give up all or part of their jobs – and therefore have lower wages and pensions.

Once the initiative has officially come about, the Bundesrat will deal with it.
