Federal councilor Alain Berset resigns after 12 years as a federal councilor.

“Mr. President of the National Council, President of the Council of States, Secretary General of the United Federal Assembly (Philippe Schwab, editor’s note.)

I have the honor to announce with these lines that I no longer wish to stand as a candidate in the next Federal Council re-election on 13 December.

After three full legislatures in the Federal Council and after more than 20 years of active engagement within the federal institutions, the time has come for this decision.

I think I’ve done my part.

I would like to thank the National Council and the Council of States for their many years of cooperation, especially during the health crisis. This has tested our country, our institutions and our entire people.

Again and again I wish the institutions foresight, courage and courage to meet the challenges of the times. I wish you and the members of the two Councils all the very best, personally and collectively.
