This SVP is now also blowing a storm against wind turbines: Martullo no longer fights alone!

The SVP blows to battle against wind turbines. This after it became known at the beginning of June that the SVP Graubünden called for a fight against the canton’s wind energy plans. The plans for the wind farm are “an insult”, says Magdalena Martullo-Blocher (53).

The SVP of the municipality of Stäfa on Lake Zurich announced last week that it would launch an initiative against the canton’s plans. With Hombrechtikon ZH, Küsnacht ZH and Wildberg ZH, three other municipalities now follow.

The initiatives advocate increasing the prescribed minimum distance between wind turbines and residential areas. Originally at least 300 to 700 meters. A similar initiative has already been implemented by the SVP in Hagenbuch ZH near Winterthur. The minimum distance there is even 1000 meters. In the densely populated canton of Zurich, experts say this amounts to a de facto ban on wind turbines.

More than just social initiatives

When asked by Blick, Lukas Bubb, chairman of SVP Stäfa, confirmed that the various initiatives were no coincidence. “Right, the SVP Canton Zurich coordinates the resistance against the wind turbines”. However, this comes from the people, not exclusively from the People’s Party.

“We have submitted the individual initiative in Stäfa so that the affected residents can decide on a possible construction,” continues Bubb. The SVP is only concerned with the fact that the public can have a say in the wind turbines in the immediate vicinity.

According to Bubb, the cantonal branch of the SVP is coordinating the resistance. That is contradicted. Domenik Ledergerber (35), party chairman of the SVP Zurich, could not be reached. Instead, the secretariat forwards Blick’s request to Cantonal Councilor Ueli Bamert (44): “I am not aware of any specific coordination activities,” says Bamert, pointing out that wind turbines are a “very emotional issue”, hence the many initiatives wouldn’t surprise him.

Site evaluations are not concrete plans

The construction department of the canton of Zurich is surprised by the alleged cantonal offensive against the wind power plants. There are no concrete plans, only possible locations.

“The canton does not plan, build or operate wind turbines. That’s what the utilities do. Construction requires approval procedures with corresponding democratic participation and objection possibilities,” says a media spokesperson for the Zurich construction department. In plain language: the population can comment on the plans.

As the canton of Graubünden has also made clear. Perhaps the battle against the wind turbines is no more than a storm in a teacup.
