St. Gallen SP National councilor Barbara Gysi wants to become a member of the Council of States

The SP wants to defend the seat of the Council of State in St. Gallen together with Barbara Gysi.

She wants to compete for a seat in the small room. Barbara Gysi (58) announced this on Twitter on Thursday afternoon. She has been a member of the National Council since 2011. Last week, the current St. Gallen councilor for States, Paul Rechsteiner (70), announced his resignation at the end of December. Now Gysi wants to be his successor.

Gysi wrote on Twitter that she wanted to continue the successful St. Gallen Council of States model: “I want to represent the socio-ecological voice in the Council of States!” it read. It is expected that the FDP and SVP will also nominate candidates.

St. Gallen SVP National Councilor Esther Friedli (45) is expected to announce her decision on Friday whether she will campaign for the Stöckli or run for the seat on the Federal Council. (SDA/hr)
