During a training of the aerobatic team of Patrouille Suisse on Thursday morning in the Baar ZG area, two F-5 Tiger aircraft collided in the air. The defense department DDPS announced this for the first time via Twitter.
The VBS can speak of a disguised happiness: all seven aircraft were able to land safely after the incident. The pilots were unharmed. Further investigations are currently underway. The military justice has launched an investigation. The aerobatic team was supposed to give a show at the Federal Yodel Festival in Zug on Friday.
Apparently a parachute has been found
A video by Blick reader Nina V. (21) from Zug shows how close the army narrowly missed a catastrophe. She filmed the planes during training on Thursday morning because she couldn’t go to the yodel festival on Friday. For a long time everything looked normal. But then it happens: two of the planes suddenly hit each other.
The nose of an F-5 Tiger broke off and hit the facade of a house. The impact also shattered the windows of the house and one person was slightly injured by the broken glass. When the two planes collided, one plane’s braking chute deployed and also fell to the ground, the military said.
“At first I thought it was part of the exercise,” says Nina V. “One plane just went down really fast.” It was only after watching the video again that she recognized the collision. But she was reassured because she had already heard “that both planes were able to continue flying happily”.

Debris landed on the property of the Glencore mining company. “We heard a bang and saw a part fall,” said a Glencore spokesman. That was around 11:15 am. Debris also landed on the site of the company. Fortunately, however, no one was injured. The group is working closely with authorities to support the investigation.
However, the shock seems to have really hit the limbs of the Glencore employees. “I had to drink a schnapps,” an employee on site told a colleague.
Army spokesman Mathias Volken has so far only been able to confirm the incident between two Patrouille Suisse aircraft. He leaves open whether the suspected aircraft parts or the parachute are related. “We can’t make assumptions at this point, we have to check the incident first,” he says.
