According to the FDF, the suspicion has been confirmed that operational data of the federal administration was stolen during a hacker attack. (picture icon)

As early as June 8, the National Center for Cybersecurity (NCSC) announced that federal operational data could also be affected. This is now confirmed by analyses. Exactly what data has been published on the Darknet and how sensitive it is is now being investigated by the relevant authorities. Presumably it concerns the entire stolen dataset. The data published by the hackers is currently being backed up and analyzed.

On May 23, the ransomware attack on IT service provider Xplain became known. The federal police service (Fedpol) and the federal customs and border control service (BAZG), the SBB and the cantonal police, among others, have been affected.

Various attacks

Several federal government departments have filed criminal charges for the attack or are considering similar steps. This procedure is intended to clarify the circumstances under which federal government data reached the Xplain system.

According to current knowledge, the most recent DDoS attacks on the websites of the federal government and the parliamentary services are not related to the attack on the IT service provider Xplain, the FDF further reports. (SDA/sf)
