The future president of the PUK investigating the bankruptcy of CS has a chance to shine – and risk falling.

Nothing less than a media conference: SP alderman Roger Nordmann (50) positioned himself on Tuesday as chairman of the parliamentary inquiry committee (PUK). Before the assembled throng of journalists, Nordmann announced that he was running for president – and that he was stepping down as parliamentary group leader. The PUK has the task of handling the CS debacle politically.

Nordmann’s actions caused surprise and ridicule from the other parties. “You are running for the PUK, not for the presidency,” it says behind closed doors. Even among the Greens there was some irritation. The SP would “politicize” a committee that should work impartially. However, the Greens and Green Liberals have already put forward arguments why a president should come from their ranks: as non-Bundesrat parties, they would be most suitable, according to the statement.

Everyone positions themselves

The Presidium offers the chance to make a name for itself on the national stage – and has twice served as a springboard for elections to the Federal Council. However, there is also a certain risk of falling: “The expectations of the PUK are so high that they can never be met,” says a parliamentarian. Presidents who can present few tangible things one day can be subjected to harsh criticism.

For the SVP and FDP, the game is already up: a presidency of those two parties is ruled out due to the participation of their own federal councilors – former finance minister Ueli Maurer (72) and current finance minister Karin Keller-Sutter (59).

Nordmann, on the other hand, has a good network in parliament and is regarded as social and honest. But as a social democrat, his chances are rather slim: SVP and FDP will probably count on a representative from the center in the election of the president. Or a representative.

“I have always campaigned for better representation of women.”State Councilor Isabelle Chassot

So far, only one Mitte party candidate has expressed her interest in PUK membership: Freiburg councilor Isabelle Chassot (58). “I’ve always campaigned for better representation of women and linguistic minorities at the federal level,” says Chassot. She thinks it is important that representatives of these groups from the ranks of the center are also taken into account. “That’s one of the reasons I’ve expressed my interest.”

The decision will be made on Monday

Other Papabili, such as the Council of State Erich Ettlin (61), Benedikt Würth (55) or party chairman Philipp Bregy (44), on the other hand, are out of the race, they confirm to SonntagsBlick. Heidi Z’graggen (57), who would have certain opportunities as a former government councilor from Uri, does not want to comment; as well as the Valais Council of States and lawyer Beat Rieder (60).

Whoever gets into the wreaths will show up on Monday. Then the middle parliamentarians decide which three representatives to send to the PUK. The attention of the media is definitely on the trio – at least until Wednesday. Subsequently, the coordination conference, consisting of all parties, determines the chairman. From then on, one person is central.
