On Wednesday there is an event that we men should not comment on. Several organizations are calling for a women’s strike. The makers are trying to repeat their great success of June 14, 2019.
Now, leading up to this date, there is a lot of lobbying, advertising and nagging. Not only women are targeted. And the senders are remarkably often aid organisations, associations and NGOs that are not primarily concerned with gender equality policy. Recently, a major union knocked on the door, wanting to use June 14 in its voting campaign for a minimum wage in the canton of Zurich. The journalists are offered a meeting with cleaners who earn a living in luxury hotels. Another example: An aid organization contacts and only deploys so-called Third World climate prosecutors who are allowed to accompany the rally.
The women’s strike four years ago claimed to represent the female 50 percent of the population, from farmers to businesswomen to teachers, from students to senior citizens. Today, the appointment seems to serve mainly as a collective vessel for concerns from the left and left-alternative corners.
This is also confirmed by a walk through Zurich’s District 4, this gated community of the self-righteous. The walls are plastered with propaganda for June 14. “Women of the World Unite!” reads one poster. The group behind it calls itself the «Movement for Socialism». And a group called “Trotzphase” announces: “I’m still fighting despite the rubber shot.” Next to it is the logo of Revolutionary Construction, best known for its illegal “post-demonstration” on Labor Day. It’s fitting that next Wednesday’s event isn’t actually called a women’s strike, but rather a “feminist strike.” And behind it is not an association, but a “collective”.
With so much Marxist folklore, no one should be surprised that political upheavals have long since broken out within the women’s camp. Purple is the new red, June 14 is the new May 1.
