Regarding the May 28 elections, I have just received a lengthy letter (via e-mail) from my old colleague Pietro Molteni (fillo), a professor, retired, of Romance philology and well-versed, as a sociolinguist, not Galician, of the language that To was agreed from the perspective of Sardinia, which knows my goodness. As some readers will mention, Professor Molteni was born on the island of Sardinia, specifically in the town of Ales, the birthplace of two great thinkers of the 20th century, Antonio Gramsci (1891-1937). My professor, as a sociolinguist, is very interested in politics and I am not surprised that a careful reader, very careful, would find two election results on May 28, both in Galicia and in our other regions of Spain.

In the letter, written two days after the two elections, I use some information whose source I do not know: “I know, Mr. Alonso, that you are depressed, like never before, say some sad people.” And he added: “It’s not for less, you have the voice of the real left, even in Vigo, in your city, since it is a useful and modern voice, none of them got five out of a hundred votes.” Perhaps the informants of the Sardinian professor did not accurately describe my state of mind, not only in light of the results, but also in light of the miserable votes obtained in Madrid, Valencia, Seville, Zaragoza, Ourense…

In the letter, Mr. Molteni referred to Gramsci’s political principles, only to conclude that, after difficult years of imprisonment and torture, those principles continued to be the beacon of his life and his powerful intellectual work. Sometimes in the letter, Molteni rejoices at the fact that progressive forces are not involved in the election (and subsequent) campaign, and the list of “culprits”.
