Do the rich deserve criticism?

The former Methodist church “La Capella” in Bern’s Breitenrhein is my favorite cultural spot – perhaps next to Rigiblik in Zurich. I was watching the current Liederlich program at La Capella, a kind of singer-songwriter festival that features several singer-songwriters, cabaret artists and entertainers. One of them is named Uta Köbernik.

A Zurich resident from Berlin and winner of the Salzburg bull reads a text entitled “Always this criticism of the rich.” The text is perfect for the Christmas season, when people tend to honor the memory of the less wealthy. And the text goes very well with “Hopfried Stutz” who deals with money. Koebernik’s text goes like this:

“They pretend to be a threat.

But there aren’t many of them!

This is minority discrimination.

In fact, it is not their fault that they are so rich.

You must think about this too.

That they are so rich is often hereditary!

It’s not their fault.

In the case of other hereditary diseases, the victims are not spoken of disparagingly.

Here.

It is easy for us to say, we do not know such a situation at all. What it’s like when you really get into it. I mean, the rich are stuck in an upward spiral – it’s not easy to get out of it.

And I haven’t heard politicians ever react! With an exit program or something similar.

You must go there!

There is no need to spend money!

I don’t even know: have the victims ever been listened to? Did you talk to them and offer help?

All because of money! They can’t help it, they don’t deserve it.”
