Party, party, party

Yes, there were four women in the Bundesrat and only three men. It was good? Was it bad? No no. It was exactly like this: the result of the elections to the Federal Assembly.

Now we are talking about replacing Simonetta Sommaruga. A woman? a man? By choosing a politician with skills and character.

The leadership of the Social Democratic Party has already narrowed the circle of candidates in this election: they want to nominate two women. She excludes men from the list of candidates.

It’s about the field – first and foremost. About quality later.

Now there is an appeal to women with children: motherhood as an additional qualification, as an additional restriction. How old can children be? Still small enough to take with you to the Federal Council room, maybe even breastfeed there on your own? No one is saying that the question is irrelevant for the duo who are currently the face of the party – a pretty couple of kindergarten teachers.

As the big old party—the party of big, old, white men—turns to gender justice, we can confidently continue to weave the thin red thread. What will the SPS candidate criteria look like in the future: a woman or a non-binary person of color plus a child with a migration background?

Laugh? To think about! The Freedom and Equality Party is atrophying into a diversity party. In the eyes of its leadership, the Bundesrat is the expression of a culture of group claims that are filtered through the leading comrades before the elections to the Federal Assembly – dissenting candidates remain outside of it.

The rejecting candidate in this case is Daniel Jozic – and he’s a man! Even a very capable, very lively, sometimes brilliant person, Zurich, too. He does not want to put up with the party’s authoritarian commitment to two candidates. Therefore, he is running himself, first in the deputy group. What heresy! “Tages-Anzeiger” in strict words reproaches the lawyer: “With his flirtations, Jozic despises not only women, but also the party leadership.”

Jozic man – the fall of man!

The most stupid phrase of this dispute is also contained in the Zurich leaflet of the left green wisdom: “We see here, first of all, bourgeois indignation.” Daniel Jozic, an accomplice of the bourgeois parties? SPS pest?

Indeed, non-ideological citizens have good reason to resent. Social Democracy is trying learning democracy: only those who are nominated by the party are eligible to be elected Social Democrats.

Party, party is always right – a song in bad memories.
