Why not Romulo and why Mulino yes?

In a few months, my son will get married. Sooner than later, I would have to be a grandfather for the first time. For those of us who still consider ourselves good parents, we tend to center our actions around our children’s future.

But in this new phase of my life, I have to think further. And not to make mistakes selfish, we have to think about the future of the next generations of Panamanians. I guess that’s how my grandparents and parents worked at that time… I’m sure it was like that.

In one of the first interviews they did with him today candidate for President of the Republic for the parties of the Alliance and the Achievement of Goals, I heard him mention his relationship with his grandchildren and his concern for their future. If I wasn’t endorsing the candidate on salary at that moment, I would have done so immediately. Mulino speaks my language and the language of hundreds of thousands of Panamanians and millions of human beings.

A step to clarify, I have something I repeat in previous texts, I belong to the party of democratic changes. I do not agree with the arbitrary way in which its current president found himself in power and with only one goal: to run again in the presidential elections. This makes it clear to us that the Master of Tik Tok thinks only of himself.

He is a candidate of choice, not because of his own convictions, but because the company he works for requires it. In other words, he has the title of Yes Man; people be damned. He is a hidden Varelist and it shows with the kind of alliances he makes.

The same ones who persecuted CDs are on my party’s ballot today. Mind you, I have nothing against Panameñistas. There are excellent men and women in this group, especially women. To conclude about this candidate, I have not heard a single consistent proposal from his mouth. He is one of those who believe that by disqualifying others he gets points. I’m telling you Romulus, I’m going to take your place on the CD.

For those who don’t know Mulino, I can comment on the following. We are seniors at the Faculty of Law and Political Sciences from the same university study center. He has already shown on many occasions that he knows the national law very well.

We fought against the dictatorship and in its heyday, I opposed it from the movement I managed together with others, among whom today there are those who want to disqualify him. He was a business leader. He was in front of several important ministries. José Raúl shared the platform with several figures from international politics. The man, like the good Chirican, loves the land and has also devoted time to agriculture. For those who have doubted his charisma for a moment, he actually has it, despite being closeted.

Panama is at a crossroads and if this is not resolved in the next five years, terror awaits us. The economy was hit by the pandemic and widespread corruption. The quality of life of Panamanians is at the bottom. How is it possible that in a country surrounded by water, the precious liquid has become a luxury and the business of a few? Sorry, I promised not to devote more space to Róux and his friends.

The Social Security Fund becomes a hollow institutional structure. The pensioners will pass soonto be an endangered species without access to affordable medicine and health.

Not to mention the education and safety of citizens. I already have a lump in my throat. Dear readers, are you still in doubt to whom to entrust your future and the future of future generations? It’s not about algorithms and stuff complicated sciences. One plus one still makes two, even if the Electoral Tribunal thinks otherwise. If you’re not sure, I can send you a copy of the presidential debate from a few weeks ago. We are clear about who not to vote for. My greatest respect to the individual candidates, it’s simply not their time, it’s Panama’s time, and there’s no need to talk about the others.

I write these lines with fear, but with the hope that they will be published. I hope that this newspaper, along with others in this group, survive the silenced hordes you already know who. Long live freedom of the press! Long live democracy! Long live Panama!
