No and no again. What Hamas committed on October 7, 2023 is the greatest crime for which there is no justification. The cruelty and meanness with which the criminals carried out their work is unprecedented. Not even the Islamic State could behead babies.
When Islamists go out to kill, as they did in London, Madrid and Paris, no one considers this an “adequate response” to anything. These actions are seen for what they are: terrorism. Crimes motivated by pure hate with the goal of causing as much pain as possible to as many people as possible.
However, if these people are Jews, everything looks completely different. Then they say that you need to “see both sides” – as if there was a second side. Then the victims must share responsibility for their fate.
Israel’s settlement policy certainly qualifies as an opportunity to use this as an opportunity. This is also a crime. But this devilish quality is not there. We must take this difference into account when assessing violence. Many Israeli settlers are simply criminals, but they have never invaded Arab villages by the thousands to rape women.
Hamas must be destroyed, just as the Islamic State should have been destroyed. At the same time, the Palestinian people need to make a proposal on how they want to coexist with it. It is a glaring weakness of Israeli policy that it has not made such proposals for some time. She is probably no longer able to do this.
But anyone who condones terrorism, as soon as he meets the Jews, must ask himself what ugly resentment led him or her to this intellectual error.
