Raven Jackson will compete for the Golden Shell at the San Sebastian Film Festival

The American poet, photographer, and filmmaker made her feature film debut with a project stemming from work she did on the Basque residency program Ikusmira Berriak. The competition also welcomes other directors such as Noah Pritzker, Cristi Puiu and Martín Rejtman

The project that the American poet, photographer and filmmaker Raven Jackson (Tennessee, 1990) developed in the residency program of Ikusmira Berriak resulted in her feature film debut, which is presented under the title All dirt roads The taste of salt. The film will compete for the Golden Shell in the official Zinemaldia section with new films by María Alché and Benjamín Naishtat, Robin Campillo, Joachim Lafosse, Noah Pritzker, Cristi Puiu and Martín Rejtman at the 71st edition of the Festival in San Sebastian, which will take place from 22 until September 30.

All dirt roads The taste of salt is a lyrical exploration of a woman’s life in Mississippi. The film was released this year in the US Dramatic Competition section of the Sundance competition.

One of the most famous names of Romanian cinema at festivals is that of Cristi Puiu (Bucharest, 1967). In 2016, he participated in the Perlak section with sieranevadaand this year in the official competition with MMXXwhich follows the adventures of a handful of wandering souls caught at the crossroads of history.

The teachers

Two professors played by Marcelo Subiotto and Leonardo Sbaraglia and facing the star of the university chair in pow, directed by Argentines María Alché and Benjamín Naishtat. French director Robin Campillo (Mohammédia, Morocco, 1962) will debut in the competition with the film L’île rougeset in the French colonization of Madagascar.

Belgian Joachim Lafosse returns to official competition with his tenth feature film, stillness, a drama starring Emmanuelle Devos and Daniel Auteuil. Noah Pritzker is coming with his second feature film, former husbands. The film’s cast consists of Griffin Dunne, James Norton, Miles Heizer and Rosanna Arquette. Another Argentine, Martín Rejtman, will participate in the official part for the first time with a comedy praxisin which actor Esteban Bigliardi plays a yoga teacher immersed in a marital crisis.
