The author has guaranteed that she will work to protect intellectual property and stop piracy
Writer, professor and academician of the Royal Spanish Academy (RAE), Carme Riera, was appointed this Thursday President of the Spanish Center for Reprographic Rights (CEDRO), the function that he will hold for the next four years, it was announced from this entity.
“We will continue to work on the development of tools that protect intellectual property authors and publishers, through digital initiatives that stop piracy”, assured Carmen Riera.
“We will strive for artificial intelligence, which is already a reality, to be an ally in defense of written culture», added Riera, who was already president between 2015 and 2019 and who now replaces editor Daniel Fernández (Edhasa).
The new Board of Directors, which was elected this morning at the General Assembly by members of Cedro, “will work to defend and protect the interests of writers, translators and authors of books, newspapers, magazines and sheet music”.
In addition, it will continue to promote a regulatory framework that ensures a fair compensation for authors and publishers“in accordance with neighboring countries, which does not jeopardize the competitiveness of the sector”.
Carme Riera is a member of the Royal Spanish Academy and professor of Spanish literature at the Autonomous University of Barcelona, as well as director of the JA Goytisolo Chair and the National Prize for Spanish Literature (2015).
Among his novels and short stories, written in Catalan and Spanish, stand out: «Dins el darrer blau», «En el último azul», National Award for Storytelling in 1995; “Cap al cel obert”, “Through the sky and beyond” or “English summer”. Among his latest publications is the biography of the literary agent Carmen Balcells.
Associated with her university work, Riera published various essays and studies on Spanish poetry such as “La escuela de Barcelona”, which was Anagram Essay Prize; “There is poison and jasmine in his ink”, dedicated to the poetry of José Agustín Goytisol or “Azorín and the concept of classics”.
His works have been translated into several languages, including English, German, Greek, Italian, Dutch, French, Swedish, Romanian, Turkish, Polish, and Russian, among others.
