The composition commissioned by Trio Preseli will be presented at Conference on contemporary music

8.30 pm • Auditorium of Galicia • Free entry • Trio Preseli will perform for the first time this afternoon «ship of blood», a piece for soprano, horn and piano commissioned from Compostela composer Fernando Buide. The title of the work is taken from one of the texts of the collection of poems «Songs of the eagle and the hawk», Valentín Paz Andrade, explains the author of the musical composition.

Last year, a trio consisting of soprano María Hinojosa, Simon Lewis (horn) and Daniel Pereira (piano) commissioned this work from Buide, which will be premiered at the Contemporary Music Conference. «All the music of ‘Nao de sangue’ tries to show the threatening and ominous character of the two verses of the Galician poet, translating into the sons or the drama that was about to unfold», says the composer. In this sense, remember that the poems, written by Paz Andrade in the middle of the civil war, depict images of an eagle and a wolf and their fierce struggle as a metaphor for fratricidal conflict.

The text of the work is divided into three fragments in the soprano interpretation interspersed with two musical interludes. The first of these quotes part of the melody and harmony of a hymn written in Welsh by Griffith William Hughes, ancestor of Simon Lewis, horn player of the trio.

For Fernando Buide, this work has an additional special connotation, since the soprano was the protagonist of his comic opera “A sombra de Cristal”. “Traballar with her is fantastic. She is an outstanding soprano, as well as dedicated and enthusiastic about new music creation.», emphasizes the composer from Compostela.
