Let’s go on vacation! Many retreat to the sea during their holidays. But why not plan a city trip during the summer holidays? But the question arises as to how. Is it better to take the train, the Flixbus or the Flugi? If you look at pure flight time, the plane is the fastest. But you also have to put up with long waiting times. Blick tells you what is most valuable.

The TGV takes you to Paris in an instant: the journey from Basel takes just three hours. At 137 francs, the trip is much cheaper than with Flugi, even without the Half-Mouse travel card. The flight with Air France costs 390 francs, but takes a little over an hour. Flixbus is cheap at 41 francs – but it also takes 8 full hours.

If you want to go to Barcelona by train or Flixbus, first of all you need to be patient: 16 hours by intercity bus, at least 9 hours by train. You pay over 200 francs for the train journey, while the Flixbus is slightly cheaper at 72 francs. Easyjet flight costs only 96 francs. But this is at the expense of the ecological balance: more than 200 kilograms of CO per person by plane₂only 23.7 kg with the train.

Thanks to a super discounted ticket, you can get to Hamburg by train from 56 francs – the journey takes 8 hours. With Flixbus you pay only 39 francs but it takes more than 12 hours. The Easyjet flight takes only 1.5 hours but is also the most expensive, with prices starting at 110 francs.

The Flixbus ride to Milan is particularly cheap at 34 francs. And in 4 hours it only takes a little longer than the train journey, where you have to spend 80 francs. The plane takes less than an hour, but the flight with Switzerland costs 240 francs. CO₂-The balance is particularly poor at 95 kilograms compared to the train (4.4 kg).

There is a direct night train to Zagreb. But it takes 14 hours to get to the Croatian capital. You pay 89 francs for a seat, a bunk car is 20 francs more. Flights with Croatian Airlines are significantly more expensive, starting at CHF 320. Flixbus is much cheaper at 41 francs. The journey takes more than 12 hours.

With 11.5 hours, the Prague Flixbus is almost as fast as the train because you have to change trains in Munich. The flight takes just under 1.5 hours, but costs 190 francs with Switzerland. Flixbus is significantly cheaper at 41 CHF. The train costs 159 francs at the end of June. During the summer holidays the train can be more expensive – it can only be booked a month in advance.
