The number of new registrations at 21,569 is almost 17 percent higher than in May 2022, as the Swiss Automobile Import Association announced on Friday. From January to May, new registrations were almost 12 percent higher than last year.
The association describes the current situation by stating that the problems in the supply chain have been overcome in many places and order times have returned to normal for many models. However, at the cumulative market level of 2019 during the same period of the year, about 30,000 new cars were still missing. After the ninth consecutive monthly increase, it is clear that the recovery is sustainable.
In May, the market shares of hybrid and electric vehicles increased by 6 points compared to the previous year, reaching a good figure of 55 percent in total. One in five new cars is all-electric, and almost 8 percent are plug-in hybrids with a fee. The remaining 27 percent are full and semi-hybrid vehicles without the option of external connection to the power grid.
