You don’t see this every day: a pilot walks through the window at the airport in San Diego.

Imagine: you are sitting on the plane, waiting for the departure time, looking bored out the window, and you see the pilot entering the cockpit through the window. This is exactly what Matt Rexroad witnessed last Wednesday as a passenger awaiting takeoff on a Southwest Airlines flight from San Diego (USA) to Sacramento (USA).

But what happened? A passenger is said to be responsible for the maneuver, according to the airline. “During boarding, when the first customers and cabin crew were already on the plane, a customer opened the front toilet door and accidentally pushed the cockpit door.” Then he locked himself.

«We flew only 8 minutes late»

At that time the pilots had not yet boarded the plane and therefore could not enter the cockpit in the normal way. “One of our pilots opened the door through the flight deck window and the flight was able to take off as scheduled,” the airline told CNN.

Matt Rexroad photographed the unusual situation with a photo he shared on Twitter. “It’s amazing how this pilot did everything possible to start this flight. We flew just 8 minutes late. Southwest Airlines’ impressive performance,” wrote Rexroad. Southwest Airlines later commented on Twitter: “It’s definitely something you don’t see every day.”
