A fierce struggle continues for the confectionery shelf at Migros. Their own brands have to give way, branded products are spreading. It was already the case with chocolate, now it applies to desserts as well.
To be specific: Celebrating their 100th birthday this year, Haribo’s golden bears are pulling Gomz’s own brand of gummy bears off the shelves.
But that’s not all, all product groups have to be replaced by competition. “We no longer sell Gomz, Smams and Larry’s candies,” says Migros spokesperson Marcel Schlatter of the “Tages-Anzeiger” newspaper. Reason: Their own brand was not liked by customers and did not go to the shopping cart as often as desired.
Other treats will also disappear
The Gomz brand includes treats like gummy bears, licorice, sour tongues, and strawberry noodles. Smams refers to soft chewy candies and Larry’s mint, melon, or eucalyptus-flavored hard candies.
All of that will now disappear and be replaced by Haribo’s branded products, which not only offer gummy bears. But that’s not all: Katjes, Sugus, Sportmint and Ricola can also be purchased from Migros. “So the gaps will close again soon,” explains Migros spokesperson “Tages-Anzeiger”.
new collaboration
The thing that pleases Haribo, who closed the last gap in Swiss retail trade with Migros confectionery shelves. The German confectionery maker talks about a “completely new collaboration” and a “strong partnership”.
Deliveries to Migros have been continuing since the beginning of this month. For golden bears from Germany, there is no greater anniversary gift than this. (co)
