Your new Ober-Twitter? Linda Yaccarino hails from NBCUniversal.

Elon Musk claims to have found a new boss for the social network Twitter. He wrote in a tweet Thursday evening: “I am pleased to announce that I have hired a new CEO for X/Twitter. Starting in 6 weeks! My role will shift to CEO and CTO overseeing products, software and sysops.”

Is Musk stepping down as Twitter boss? You cannot be absolutely sure. However, the “Wall Street Journal” now reports that NBCUniversal media group advertising manager Linda Yaccarino is in talks with Elon Musk about her new role as Twitter boss. The two know each other and have just met at a conference in Miami.

Yaccarino is responsible for NBCUniversal’s global advertising business. The group includes US broadcaster NBC and streaming service Peacock. Earlier, he worked heavily in Warner’s TV business. NBCUniversal recently made a deal with Twitter for images from the Paris 2024 Olympics. “Variety” wrote, referring to Yaccarino’s circle, that he has long expressed his admiration for Musk. In mid-April, she interviewed him on stage at an industry conference.

Tesla shares soar

Striking: The billionaire doesn’t mention a specific name in his announcement. He would move into the coaching role.

Musk only bought Twitter in October 2022. Since buying Twitter for $44 billion, it has laid off about 70 percent of its employees, including its entire senior management team. Musk’s announcement had an immediate impact on Tesla stock. This has increased greatly.

57.5% spoke in favor of resignation

Musk has already announced that he wants to give up the top position at the end of 2022 – but only after the successor is determined. He took over the top position in October as part of his acquisition of the internet platform for approximately $44 billion. His resignation announcement in December resulted in a self-initiated Twitter poll that nearly 57.5 percent of respondents supported his resignation. Musk had previously assured him that he would stick to the outcome of the vote.

Musk’s Twitter acquisition has raised suspicions from the beginning. The multi-billionaire justified the takeover as an action to strengthen freedom of expression. But critics feared that the Internet platform would go wild further. They were concerned that the ownership change could lead to more widespread hate speech, hate speech and disinformation.

So far, Musk has not been able to dispel these concerns. On the contrary: A wave of layoffs has rattled the online network with erratic rule changes and other explosive decisions, and intimidated advertising customers, their most important source of income. (neo/nad/SDA)
