Traveling to the USA is finally getting easier again! On May 11, America will remove vaccines for international air travelers. This was announced by the US government under President Joe Biden (80) on Tuesday. Concretely, this means that Swiss people wishing to fly to the US won’t need proof of corona vaccine any time soon.
The obligation to do Corona-Pixies was introduced in November 2021. This measure is no longer valid because the number of Corona-related hospitalizations and deaths has dropped by 90 percent.
As a reminder: at the start of the corona pandemic in March 2020, then-US President Donald Trump (76) even issued an entry ban for foreigners from Europe. With few exceptions, entry is banned from the Schengen area, Great Britain and Ireland.
Absolutely mandatory for travelers
The USA is one of the last countries to abolish vaccination requirements. Only a few more countries are forcing travelers to Corona-Pix. like Indonesia. Vaccination against Corona there is mandatory since February 2021. This is strictly enforced against tourists. You must present a vaccination certificate and sign a health certificate at check-in. And yet, only 55 percent of the population is vaccinated. For comparison: In Switzerland, 70 percent have been vaccinated at least once.
Ecuador has also had mandatory vaccination since the end of December 2022. All people from the age of five in the South American country should be vaccinated. The strict precaution has an effect: In Ecuador, more than 76 percent of the population has already taken a second match.
In Turkmenistan and Tajikistan – undoubtedly none of the world’s top travel destinations – vaccination is mandatory from the age of 18. Tajikistan declared itself “corona-free” as early as January 2021. In retrospect, it’s a bit hasty: the vaccination rate at that time was 42 percent.
Vaccination mandatory for the elderly
Partial vaccination obligation still applies in Italy. And for anyone over 50. In Greece this applies to persons over 60 years of age. In some countries, occupational groups, particularly in the health and care sector, still have to be vaccinated. So in England, France, Hungary, Russia or Pakistan. However, tourists can enter these countries without any restrictions.
What about the obligation to wear a mask? Even Hong Kong and China, which have long made headlines with their overly strict Covid regimes, have recently lifted mask-wearing requirements. Valid only in hospitals and nursing homes. Other countries have similar restrictions. There are also countries that tighten the screws again. In India, for example, wearing a mask has become mandatory again in some states recently. (be)
