US airline United Airlines started the fiscal year in red. In the three months to the end of March, there was a loss of $194 million as a result, as the company announced on Tuesday after the US stock market closed. (archive image)

After all, the airline has significantly reduced the minus – a year ago it was still $ 1.4 billion due to the heavy load of the Corona variant Omikron.

In fact, things are doing well at United thanks to air travel surviving the pandemic. First-quarter revenue increased more than 50 percent year-on-year to $11.4 billion. But the company is groaning under high expenses – but especially for kerosene – such as salaries, airport fees and maintenance of the aircraft fleet. A positive business outlook pushed the share up almost two percent after the trading session.
