Former CS boss Tidjane Thiam is said to be the victim of blackmail.

“I want you to know that there has been an attempt to blackmail me on Instagram,” former CS boss Tidjane Thiam (60) wrote on her social media platform. The online portal Tippinpoint was the first to report on extortion.

Thiam is taking action against the person for writing, “I have filed a complaint with the authorities responsible for fake identity and extortion.” It also commissioned cybersecurity experts to get to the bottom of the blackmail. Thiam provides no further details on the incident.

The former CS boss seems familiar with the situation. “For the first time in my career or life, I am not attacked by dishonest people.” Only recently have two people been charged in other racketeering cases against him in two countries.

Reported and on-the-job experts

Thiam held the executive chair at Credit Suisse from 2015 to 2020. Since the bank was rescued in an emergency on March 19, Thiam has had to listen to a lot of criticism for his time as CEO. He does not tolerate criticism.

He resigned from Credit Suisse in 2020 after gaining attention as CEO surrounding the CS shadowing incident. One of those detained was 46-year-old former wealth manager Iqbal Khan. The shadowing was said to have been triggered by fears that Khan could kidnap important bank customers.

After leaving Credit Suisse, Thiam moved from Zurich to London. He is currently chairman of the board of investment firm Freedom Acquisition Corp. (smt)
