The cheapest Model 3 is now 42,980 francs.

Tesla boss Elon Musk (53) had promised cheaper electric cars a few weeks ago. The costs of future vehicle generations should be cut in half. The US group is now announcing lower prices for Swiss buyers.

The Austin, Texas-based electric car maker announced on Friday that Tesla has once again lowered its prices in “many European markets”. In Switzerland, this applies to the Model 3, Model Y Performance and all variants of the rear-wheel drive Model Y and variants of the Model S and X.

Up to 10,000 CHF cheaper

Depending on the model, price reductions range from CHF 3,000 to CHF 10,000. “Our mission at Tesla is to accelerate the transition to sustainable energy,” he said in the communique. The key to this lies in the switch to cheaper mass-produced vehicles.

Here are the new prices in Switzerland:

  • The Model 3 has a starting price of CHF 42,980 (- CHF 3,000)
  • Model 3 Performance: new CHF 55,980 (- CHF 6,000)
  • Model 3 Maximum range: now 50,980 francs (- 4,000 francs)
  • Rear-wheel drive Model Y: new 45,980 francs (- 2,000 francs)
  • Model Y Performance: new CHF 61.980 (- CHF 4,000)
  • Model S: all variants 10,000 francs cheaper
  • Model X: all variants 10,000 francs cheaper

In China, Tesla lowered its prices in the key Chinese market at the beginning of the year for the second time in a few months due to sales problems. The group has to fend off increasingly strong local competition in the country from providers like BYD, Xpeng or Nio. After all: Tesla is the only foreign manufacturer to enter the ranking of the ten best-selling electric cars in China. (pbe/SDA)
