Two weeks ago, the tech multi-billionaire called for a pause in artificial intelligence development.

Musk has purchased thousands of high-end computer chips and hired artificial intelligence experts, experts magazine Insider reported on Tuesday. According to another medium specializing in new technologies, “Information” wants to develop a competitor for the successful multi-millionaire chatbot ChatGPT. At the end of March, Musk signed a joint letter from a group of experts specifically calling for a pause in the development of advanced artificial intelligence.

Musk, 51, has laid off most of his workforce since he took over Twitter last fall and is looking to further cut the company’s operating costs. According to the “Insider” report, the AI project at Twitter aims to automatically generate written content. The use of generative AI as a search or advertising tool could also be considered. In detail, however, it’s largely unclear what purpose Musk is pursuing with this.

AI-based programs like ChatGPT create content with the help of artificial intelligence. Users can specify individual commands or sentences, which the corresponding systems then independently complete with the help of large amounts of data from the Internet.

Musk himself had invested in AI years ago: 51-year-old Musk co-founded ChatGPT developer Open AI in 2015 but left the company in 2018.
