From August 1st, in France, retail, gastronomy and other services will print the cashier’s receipt only if the customer expressly requests it. Originally, the expiration of the receipt obligation was supposed to be heralded on April 1. (icon image)

Now that’s just the case on August 1 as determined by a regulation from Saturday. From now on, receipts will be printed in retail, catering and other services only if the customer explicitly requests it. The end of the receipt requirement for environmental reasons was first agreed in 2020.

Commerce Minister Olivia Grégoire said the receipt now serves as a guide for many in France, given the high rises in food prices. Half of people still want a receipt when shopping.

Therefore, the receipt should be kept until inflation peaks. Customers in France are already often asked at the checkout if they want a receipt, otherwise it will no longer be printed.
