In 2019, a skier sued. Plaintiff alleges in court documents that Hollywood actress Gwyneth Paltrow, 50, slipped “out of control” on a slope and injured her in a collision. The incident occurred in 2016 at the Deer Valley ski area in the US state of Utah.
In the civil lawsuit that began Tuesday, the 50-year-old now has to answer in court in Ohio. The victim of the accident, a retired optician, accused the Oscar winner (“Shakespeare in Love”) of hitting and seriously injuring him while skiing in the Rocky Mountains.
Four broken ribs and permanent brain damage
Plaintiff’s lawyer, Lawrence Buhler, said Paltrow had driven “dangerously” and “recklessly”, causing Terry Sanderson “fracture of all four ribs and permanent brain damage”. But that’s not all: Paltrow continued to drive while Sanderson passed out. Loss amounted to $3.3 million (€3.1 million).
Paltrow’s attorney, Steven Owens, dismissed the allegations as “totally BS” (bullshit; German: bullshit). Sanderson was “obsessed” with the case and was making “false allegations”.
In fact, it was Sanderson who entered Paltrow from behind at the glamorous Deer Valley ski resort in February 2016, Owens said. At first, the actress even thought that she was the victim of an attack. The actor filed a counterclaim, demanding a dollar coin for damages and attorneys’ fees from Sanderson.
Not only did Paltrow make big bucks as an actress, she also built a second career selling health and beauty products. On the Goop website she also offers interesting products such as clothes, sex toys and candles under the name “This smells like my vagina”. (AFP/dzc)
