In the Expat Basics Index of Munich-based consulting firm Internations, the Swiss Confederation was ranked 20th above the average among the 52 countries evaluated. Foreigners are especially satisfied with the Swiss administration (7th) and the digital infrastructure (7th).
Language (30th) also poses some problems for immigrants here, but less so than in Germany (49th) and Austria (38th). However, the biggest obstacle to a smooth start in Switzerland is housing (ranked 44).
Here, the country ranks among the ten worst rated countries in the world. The current housing shortage is also causing problems for immigrants.
Austria is doing better in housing (25th). More than half of those surveyed easily found an apartment there, which is slightly above the global average.
Meanwhile, this year’s podium places in the expat rankings went to Bahrain, the United Arab Emirates and Singapore.
The Expats Insider study included 11,970 participants from 177 countries. Participants rated 56 different factors of living abroad on a scale of 1 to 7.
