A total of 8.7 million people flocked to the cinemas, as the Federal Statistics Office announced Wednesday. The number of screens used has even exceeded 2019. With 617 screens, it reached a record value not seen since 1967.

Movies in 3D format were shown on 318 screens after being shown on 306 screens last year. But that’s below the 2018 peak of 326 screens. In 2022, the number of cinemas and seats remained stable in general.

The market share of Swiss films in the cinema program increased from 4.3 percent last year to 5.1 percent. Eleven new Swiss films have entered the top 500 with most views since 1976.

Barbara Kulcsar’s retirement movie The Golden Years ranked 62nd in the year it was released. There were 78,576 entries.
