As the Bern-based electricity supplier announced on Tuesday, total generation reached 5.20 billion francs in 2022, up 46 percent from the previous year. As a result, a profit of CHF 574 million was made after CHF 327 million in 2021.

Shareholders will receive ordinary dividends of CHF 2.80 per share after CHF 2.60 in the previous year. There is also a one-time anniversary dividend of CHF 1.25 per share.

At the beginning of January, BKW announced an operating profit of around CHF 1 billion. Specifically, EBITDA as it was called Tuesday reached 1.04 billion after 395 million the previous year.

According to BKW, the energy business was decisive for the “perfect” result. The business segment posted a “record” operating profit of 888 million. The management of their own power plants, namely the related trade business, was very successful. Strong price fluctuations were best exploited by securing electricity generation.

In the medium term, BKW will remain on the growth path it announced before the major turmoil in the energy markets. For the current financial year, it expects an operating profit in the range of CHF 550 to 600 million. After one-off effects in 2022, this situation will somehow return to normal in 2023.
