Gold second hand. This is the new gold Moonswatch from Swatch and Omega. Swiss watchmakers revealed the secret Tuesday morning in Tokyo. Swatch writes on Instagram that the second hand was made during the full moon in February.

The watch, a remake of the “Mission to the Moon” model, goes on sale this evening in Zurich, Milan and London. It will not be available for sale online as Swatch writes. The watch should cost 275 francs – 25 francs more than other Moonswatch models.

From the early morning hours, a handful of watch lovers are waiting for the discounts to start at the Paradeplatz in Zurich. It starts today at 7 o’clock – in an hour the ghost will already be gone. So arriving early can work. The first one arrived in front of the Swatch store at 04:30.

Behind this hype

Swatch wants to build on last year’s success with its “Moonshine Gold Mission”. In March 2022, Nick Hayek (68) and Omega launched eleven Moonswatch models for CHF 250 each. Special feature: The design of the watch is based on the Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch. The original cost 6,000 francs and more.

The rush was huge back then. Thousands of watch enthusiasts lined up to grab one of the models that lined up in front of Swatch stores at night. The scam has never stopped – Moonswatch models in stores have generally sold out over the past few weeks.

High prices expected on the Internet

One thing is for sure: Moonswatch models have been valuable to Swatch and Omega until now. More than one million sold in 2022. And after the lunar watch craze, the entire Speedmaster collection of the Omega brand attracted more attention, for example, with lunar watch models.

Not only Swiss watchmakers but also private customers profited from the scam. They put rare items on sales platforms like Ebay and get four digits in return! High prices are also expected on the internet for the new gold Moonswatch.
