In particular, the number of overnight stays increased by 36 percent compared to January 2022, as the Federal Statistics Office (BFS) announced on Tuesday. FSO recorded a total of 3.0 million overnight stays, about 782,000 more than in the same month last year. Overall, the numbers were only slightly below the level before the pandemic in January 2020.
Significantly more international guests were drawn to Switzerland in January. The number of foreign tourists increased by 64 percent compared to the same month of the previous year and reached 1.3 million. The most important guest group came from Germany, followed by England, France and the USA.
However, most of the overnight stays were booked by Swiss guests, also with 1.65 million in January. Compared to January 2022, this represents an increase of about 19 percent. The pre-crisis value for January 2020 was thus exceeded by around 100,000 overnight stays. (SDA)
