One winter, many winners. For the second time this season, Blick and Switzerland Tourism are looking for the most beautiful ski area in Switzerland.
Over the past few weeks, 76 winter destinations have competed head-to-head in six different categories. The Thursday evening awards ceremony took place away from the snow sports centers at Lake Side in Zurich.
Double victory for the defending champion
More than 70,000 votes were cast for participating regions on Winterawards.ch. Representatives of the destinations exchanged their views on the current conditions in the ski areas, which are especially good at high altitudes, despite the much missed snowfall.
The big winner is the Arosa Lenzerheide GR ski area. The defending champion from Graubünden won twice at the awards ceremony, again this year, and impressed the community in both the “Family” category and the “Ski & Snowboard” category. “Thanks to our people at the mountain,” says Philipp Holenstein (60), CEO of Arosa Bergbahnen, as he accepts the award. The workers of the mountain railways are particularly challenged this winter so that guests can enjoy skiing. What makes Holenstein particularly happy: the many young skiers rushing down the town’s slopes this season.
The Melchsee-Frutt OW ski area managed to retain its title in the “Small and Beautiful” category. “Thanks to customer proximity, wide product range and great employee effort,” says Edith Cadena (53), Marketing Manager at Blick. She responds: “So far this winter we have been able to offer our guests good conditions. February was particularly good.” Despite the difficult general conditions, the small ski area awaits a good winter season.
New price category
The Blick Winter Award was also given for the first time in the “Gastronomy” category. Here the winter destination Zermatt-Matterhorn VS has landed on top. It is not without reason that this can be called a mountain village with the highest concentration of gourmet restaurants.
As part of the awards ceremony, the winners presented their awards to cross-country skier Laurien van der Graaff (35), former Nati star Beni Huggel (45) and St. Moritz mayor Christian Jott Jenny (45), take it.
In addition to the Blick Winter Award, winners can look forward to CHF 85,000 gross advertising volume on Blick Group channels.
