A total of 43.6 million passengers were served at Swiss airports throughout 2022, including local and transfer passengers. Compared to 2021, the number of people arriving and leaving has more than doubled, as the Federal Statistics Office (BFS) and Civil Aviation (FOCA) announced on Monday. However, this is still only three-quarters of the level of the last pre-corona 2019 year.
The number of flight movements increased by 86 percent, decreasing from the number of passengers to just under 366 thousand, indicating higher capacity utilization of the aircraft.
Although the number of tons carried in the cargo business was 7 percent higher than the previous year, it remained 18 percent below the 2019 level.
When the last quarter is evaluated separately, the number of passengers on scheduled and charter flights increased by more than 50 percent to 11.4 million, while the number of flights increased by 34 percent to 91 thousand. Tonnage in the air transport segment fell slightly, even in a quarterly comparison.
