Smartphones have become an integral part of our daily lives. so have steve Jobs (1955-2011) introduced the first iPhone just 15 years ago. This is now rare. And especially popular with collectors.
A buyer paid $63,000 for a first-generation iPhone at auction. If you still have an old iPhone sitting in a drawer at home, you shouldn’t get too excited too soon. The trick: The auctioned smartphone was unopened and still original packaging. Rare!
The smartphone is said to be in “excellent condition”. According to the auction website all edges and surfaces are undamaged and even the original welding foil is intact LCG Auctions.
Record despite low starting price
Similarly, well-protected first-generation iPhones cost around $35,500 and $39,500, respectively, last year.
However, the $63,000 auction price looks like a new record. It’s not known whether more has been paid so far, at least for an iPhone. The starting price of the auction was $2500.
2 megapixel camera
The technical data shows that the iPhone 2007 has no function from today’s point of view. It includes 4 or 8 gigabytes of storage and a 2 megapixel camera. But at the time it was revolutionary. For comparison: The latest iPhone 14 has between 128 gigabytes and one terabyte of storage. The main camera is 48 megapixels.
Back then, the first iPhone cost $500 or $600 depending on its memory.
