Weak sales figures for German electric cars in China

This was reported by “Handelsblatt” (Wednesday edition) with reference to insurance data submitted to it from the People’s Republic. BMW, Mercedes and Audi failed even at the one percent barrier with 0.8, 0.3 and 0.1 percent respectively.

According to the information obtained, a total of 5.7 million electric cars were registered in China in 2022. Only about 200,000 could be assigned to German brands. The majority of electric cars sold come from Chinese manufacturers such as BYD and US rival Tesla. According to the information obtained, Tesla managed to sell more cars in China than the compact SUV Model Y, with its all-electric models, than the combined of German automakers.

According to the report, German manufacturers’ combustion vehicles are among the best-selling models in China, while Volkswagen, BMW and Mercedes have had problems selling a significant portion of their electric cars in China for years.
